Media & Socialities

Traces, sounds, images, contexts of the Media & Societies workshop. November 2017 at Spedition Bremen, Germany

The workshop Media and Socialities was a part of the 2017 series city/data/explosion on city, the public realm and digitization and part of the exchange between people active in the fields of art, culture, social and civil social engagement from Budapest and Bremen, initiated by kunst- und kulturverein spedition.
This is the documentation of our reflections on urban and media practices.

The Walk through the city centre of Bremen led to two points of reference: The Rembertikreisel, a roundabout in the southeast and a road and railway overpass on the western edge of the city centre – two strange non-places in a densely populated city. Questions that guided us on the way were- what will be there to see and to hear? And what not? What could be there (instead)?

At the end of the workshop, the Presentation brought together all the recordings, references, findings (and their processing) in the Belle Etage of the spedition. The resulting outcomes are documented here in various formats of text, video, audio, drawing, (geo) data, objet trouvé.

The Context sums up quotes and references that have played a role in dealing with the terrain and surroundings of the walk as well as the themes of the workshop. Short texts describe the idea of the workshop, the idea behind the route of dir_name and the history of one of the 'non-places' visited.
